The Reenactors

One of the things that adds to the specialness of Waterford Heritage Days is the participation of many local re-enactment groups. These groups volunteer their time to honor those who have protected our country and helped keep our communities safe. This year's participants include but are not limited to:

French Creek Living History Association – Their goal is to eventually develop a Native American Village in conjunctions with the Fort LeBoeuf Historical Society to honor the earliest citizens.

WWII – Marines of the Old Breed - A group whose mission is to honor the memory and service of the U.S. Marines and Navy Corpsmen who served in the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II, specifically, the 1st Marine Division. "The Old Breed" was a nickname given to the Marines of World War II who fought fiercely against the land and naval forces of the Empire of Japan between 1941 and 1945.

War of 1812 – The 17th U.S. Infantry – Honoring the brave soldiers who fought in the War of 1812. Following Perry's victory on Lake Erie, the British retreated back to Canada and eventual defeat at the River Thames. The 17th was sent back to occupy Detroit with the bulk of the Northwest Army.

WWII – The 88th and 99th Division European Theatre – The United States began the war with only a handful of active divisions; five infantry and one cavalry. By the end of the war, the nation had fielded nearly one hundred. This has been called "the 90-Division Gamble". Additionally, due to the U.S. Army's method of deployment combined with events of the war, the United States did not suffer the destruction of any of its division-size units during the conflict, except for the Philippine Division in 1942.

WWII – The 1st Marine Division, Pacific Theater – The 1st Marine Division was organized during World War II in the Pacific Theater of Operations. During the early stages of WWII, the 1st Marine Division launched the first land offensive against Japan, and became front line troups for the four months of the campaign.

The 111th and 150th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry – The 111th and 150th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry divisions were both recruited in this area. The small building next to the Waterford Hotel was the recruiting office for the 111th.
